We can’t wait to welcome you to our 10th Anniversary festival and celebrate this first weekend of Spring on Saturday 3rd September at the Bangalow Showgrounds. Keep reading to find out more about what’s on offer for this year’s festival including our biggest vegan menu selection ever and some delicious beverages that will be served for your enjoyment.

CELEBRATING MACADAMIA NUT DAY AT SAMPLE

Get your tastebuds ready! Darren Robertson and Three Blue Ducks are releasing an exclusive limited edition Macadamia Miso & Chocolate Palmier, in partnership with our festival sponsors Australian Macadamias in celebration of Macadamia Nut Day (Sunday 4th September) ! And the really good news… you will be able to taste it for yourself at Sample Food Festival!

Channeling his passion for food and old school classic pastries, Darren uses some of his favourite Australian ingredients to deliver a nutty, chocolatey and slightly savoury flaky treat, one which pairs perfectly with a coffee or cup of tea. You will be able to find this delicious pastry at the Three Blue Ducks stall at Sample Food Festival and you can even try making it at home with the recipe now available on Australian Macadamias website!

With Shannon Martinez, owner of Smith and Daughters, Melbourne’s first ever hatted vegan restaurant coming to Sample Food Festival this year, it is only fitting that we have our biggest ever selection of vegan options available! Don’t miss Shannon prepare some of her favourite vegan dishes on the Sample Food Festival cooking stage at 11:15am and save some room for all of these incredible vegan taste plates on offer…

Workshops

Cultural Weaving and Plant Dyeing Workshop

Join the Bundjalung Ballina GMARS in a weaving circle and learn simple weaving techniques in a 90 minute workshop supported by cultural weavers Tania Marlowe and Deb Cole from Jugan Dandii.

Weave your own small basket from natural plant fibres and see how plants can easily be used for natural dyeing techniques. There are two sessions available; 10am and 1:30pm Saturday 3rd September 2022 at Sample Food Festival, Bangalow Showground.

Wild Foods Foraging Masterclass 

Join renowned wild food researcher Peter Hardwick for a unique one hour foraging walk along the creek and around Bangalow exploring the unusual foods that grow all around us. Discover new foods and forage for wild ingredients to be used in a live cook-off between Jason Saxby (Raes) and Alastair Waddell (Frida’s Field) back at the Sample Food Festival cooking stage. Limited tickets left for the 12pm session. 2pm (sold out) Saturday 3rd September 2022, meet at the cooking stage at Sample Food Festival, Bangalow Showground.

Picnic Rug Hire Package

Enjoy a Spring picnic at Sample Food Festival with our Wandering Folk Rug Picnic Package. $80 + BF includes entry for up to six people, a reserved picnic spot in the main food precinct and Wandering Folk picnic rug hire with limited umbrella hire also available (for session time only)

Kids Activities

A family friendly event, there will be lots of fun activities for the little ones including free sand sculpture workshops with master sand sculptor Steve Machell from Sandology, who will also be doing a giant sand sculpture installation. There will also be bubble fun and the Peach Farm are coming with their cuddly animals. Kids under 16 enter the festival for FREE and gates open from 8am.
