Winding Road Distilling Co. evokes the true meaning of craft distilling. Established in 2016 in the village of Tintenbar, owners Camille and Mark Awad focus on hand-crafting premium small-batch spirits. From initial concept to recipe development through to production and hand-bottling/labeling, this husband and wife team do it all!  They preference local ingredients wherever possible and love to collaborate with other Northern Rivers producers to create truly unique spirits.

Initially, the focus for Winding Road Distilling Co. was to craft Agricole style Rum and Whiskey, which they have certainly achieved! Their rum, made using locally grown fresh-pressed cane juice captures the terroir of our Northern Rivers region. The distillery’s first release of Coastal Cane Pure Single Rum was awarded Gold in the 2021 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards (ADSA), while the unaged expression, Agricole Blanc Virgin Cane Spirit has received Silver and Bronze awards at the American Distilling Institute Awards and the ADSA as well.

The first release of their Hinterland Single Malt Whiskey (only the second Whisk(e)y in the region) became available this past May and sold out within 24 hours!  It is a stunning and truly unique Northern rivers expression, crafted using seven varieties of NSW-grown malted barley in a considered fermentation and distillation process followed by maturation in a curated selection of oak casks.

Despite this little distillery having only two staff (Camille and Mark), they have also developed and released their incredible and multi award-winning Citrus and Sea Gin. Inspired by the Bundjalung lands and waters we are so fortunate to live amongst, this expression features local and native botanicals and was created while they were patiently waiting for their first Rum and Whiskey barrels to mature.

Last but certainly not least, Camille and Mark have created their divine 50 Mile Coffee Liqueur, possibly the only spirit of its kind featuring locally grown and roasted single origin coffee beans (from Zentvelds Estate in Newrybar).  In fact, it is a wholly local product, utilizing the distillery’s hand-crafted Agricole Blanc Virgin Cane Spirit as the base.
