The ultra-competitive Golden Fork awards are a #SampleFoodFest tradition and give our Sample Food Festival restaurants an opportunity to win the title of best $10 or $5 tasting plate of the year. Last year’s winners were Harvest Newrybar and Shoza Gyoza and this year the decision is in the very capable hands of our celebrity chef judges Matt MoranFederico Zanellato and Alex Munoz Labart. Come to the main cooking stage at 11:30am atSample Food Festival on Saturday 7th September in Bangalow to find out who has won the coveted Golden Fork Awards for 2019! 

2019 CELEBRITY CHEF JUDGES!

MATT MORAN
With over 30 stellar years in the food industry behind him, a plethora of awards to his name, a handful of best-selling cookbooks under his belt, and the tour de force behind some of Australia’s most celebrated dining establishments including the iconic two-hat restaurant, Aria, it’s safe to say that Matt Moran is an Australian food icon. 

FEDERICO ZANELLATO
Hailing from Italy and with a love of Japanese cuisine, chef Federico Zanellato of LuMi Dining Sydney will be bringing his unique take on modern Italian with a Japanese twist to the sold out Sample lunch as well as being a judge at Sample Food Festival this year. 

ALEX MUNOZ LABART 
Alex Munoz Labart was born in Santiago, Chile and moved to Australia as a young boy. His interest in cooking led him to undertake a career as a chef. Alex has since worked at a number of Sydney’s top restaurants and in July 2018, Alex opened his first restaurant, Restaurant Labart, in Burleigh Heads QLD.

One of the highlights of the Sample Food Festival Program each year is the TAFE cook-offs. Watch our all-star line-up of chefs go head to head in the 30 minute Mystery Box Challenge with the assistance of their TAFE apprentices!!

EVAN WHITE
Chef Evan White has been mastering the art of authentic Mexican food for many years now. In 2018, Evan and his partner Amelia Stokes opened an authentic Mexican taqueria called CHUPACABRA in Suffolk Park, in the Byron Bay Shire. Evan’s cuisine is rustic and wholesome, and his passion is for food made slowly, with love and integrity.

LUCA CIANO
Luca Ciano was born and raised in Milan and his 20+ career includes working at the famous two Michelin Star restaurant, Il Luogo di Aimo e Nadia in Milan. Luca is passionate about regional Italian gastronomy and showcasing the diversity of Italian cuisine. He currently consults to restaurants, magazines and Italian brands around the world and has his own Italian inspired food range. Luca Ciano will also be doing a Prosciutto Di Parma masterclass at Sample at the main cooking stage at 11:45am.

MATTHEW KEMP
Matthew Kemp is one of Australia’s most well recognised and respected chefs. He was born in the UK and now calls Australia his home. He has worked with and for some of the best restaurants in the business. Matt is currently managing his role as the Exec chef of the PLB group that has venues such as Taverna, Osteria, Bombay Cricketers Club, Ancora and Baked at Ancora in its stables. This sees Matt work with and alongside a highly talented pool of over 50 chefs and cooks.

TYLER PRESTON
Kiwi born Tyler Preston lives with his young family in Byron Bay, due to a sea change from big city life in Melbourne. Having featured in some of Melbourne’s iconic venues includingSeven Seeds & the infamous CHIN CHIN, Tyler brings the big flavours of South East Asia to the Northern Rivers via the popular new hangout Bang Bang. Come see what he cooks up at the Mystery Box Challenge and the Bang Bang marquee where his team will be burning up some tasty sticks over coals. Just look for the smoke and follow your nose.
