Our cooking stage will be heating up with some friendly competition, some chances to learn new things and plenty of fun this year! Here are four reasons to get amongst the action at the Sample Food Festival cooking stage on Saturday 7th September at the Bangalow Showground…
1. Cape Byron Norco Ultimate Scoop Competition
Thanks to our Sample Food Festival 2024 partner Norco, you will be able to catch some of our region’s favourite chefs battle it out live on stage at this year’s festival in Cape Byron’s Ultimate Scoop Competition!
Ally Waddell Frida’s Field, Jason Saxby Raes on Wategos, Jordan Staniford Capiche and Jay Elbrihi ex Pipit will take the delicious and decadent Norco Cape Byron Ultimate Vanilla ice cream, with its smooth, creamy texture rich and Madagascan vanilla bean seeds, and add their own unique twist.
These innovative chefs have been challenged to highlight local ingredients and our amazing regional food bowl. Showcasing their food passion and putting their personal stamp on this indulgent ice cream

2. My Mayor Rules
Back by popular demand, the great My Mayor Rules Cook-off, our collaboration with Northern Rivers Food will be returning to the Sample Food Festival cooking stage this year!
Mayors will be teamed up with a local chef and given a mystery box full of local goodies and challenged to cook a delicious dish in 30 minutes. Then it is up to you, our lovely Sample audience, to choose the winner!
This year we have Mayors Sharon Cadwallader from Ballina Shire, Michael Lyon from the Byron Shire and Steve Krieg from Lismore Shire signed up for the challenge!

3. Live Masterclasses with Lord Byron Distillery and Cape Byron Distillery!
If you like pina coladas then leave it to the experts Lord Byron Distillery! We are thrilled to have Lord Byron Distillery back on board, shaking and stirring some incredible cocktails for this year’s festival including their famous Pina Colada along with Negroni, Pineapple Old Fashioned Rum Punch, Rum & Dry, Kokomo & Pineapple, Gin & Grapefruit and Gin & Tonic.

We all love sipping on a Brookie’s Gin cocktail in the Spring sunshine and this year they are returning to serve up a selection of delicious cocktails including their classic Gin and Tonic along with their Cape Byron Whisky Tropical High Ball.
You will also be able to take some notes directly from Cape Byron Distillery’s co-founder and distiller Eddie Brook in his live masterclass at the festival!
